Reuters reported Tuesday that a former employee of Iran's Ministry of Defense was executed on charges of "U.S. espionage".
Reuters quoted Iranian Islamic Radio and Television (IRIB) as saying that the executed employee was Jalal Hajzawar, a contract employee of Iran's Aerospace Organization under the Ministry of Defence. He left nine years ago and was investigated by a military court and pleaded guilty to being found at home with sensitive documents and espionage equipment. He was executed in a prison in Karady, west of Tehran.
Reuters said Iranian media did not disclose more details.
The background of this incident is that Iran and the United States are on the "brink of war" because the former shot down American drones. Several U.S. media reported that Trump had even ordered a military strike against Iran, but then withdrew. Trump said on Twitter that he called an emergency halt 10 minutes before the military strike because he thought he was told that the attack would kill 150 people and that the casualties were "unequal" to those of the drones shot down by Iran.
