600 kilometers per hour! China's fastest land transportation has arrived.
It has no wheels, flies close to the ground, is faster than high-speed rail, and has less noise. If you are lucky enough to be a passenger, you will experience the feeling of flying.
On May 23, the prototype of China's 600 km/h high-speed maglev test vehicle was launched in Qingdao, one year ahead of the planned 2020 test prototype vehicle.
According to the plan, the prototype of high-speed maglev project with a speed of 600 kilometers per hour will be off-line in 2020, and the system comprehensive test will be carried out on the commissioning line in 2021 to complete the integration verification and form the engineering capability of high-speed maglev.
However, a number of rail transit experts told the first financial reporter that the current high-speed maglev project research and development is more technical reserves. There is still a long way to go before it can be truly transformed into mass transit by means of comprehensive factors such as cost, transportation capacity, market and economic significance.
Beijing to Shanghai takes only 3.5 hours.
As a new high-speed traffic mode, the most remarkable advantages of high-speed maglev are "one high, one low, one big, one small", that is, high speed, low noise, large passenger capacity, small vibration.
Sun Zhang, Professor of Railway and Urban Rail Transit Research Institute of Tongji University, told First Financial Journalist that high-speed maglev can fill the gap of rail transit in China.
At present, the maximum operating speed of high-speed rail is 350 kilometers per hour, and the cruise speed of aircraft is 800-900 kilometers per hour. High-speed Maglev at 600 kilometers per hour can fill the gap between high-speed rail and aviation.
The rail transit of wheel-rail system has a limitation, which is called "sticking limit speed". According to the calculation, the limit speed is about 350-400 km/h. If noise, vibration, mechanical wear and other factors are taken into account, the actual running speed is lower.
"That is to say, the speed of high-speed rail is limited. High-speed maglev can break through the sticking limit speed of wheel-rail traffic. Sun Zhang said that high-speed maglev also has the technical advantages of "fast start, fast stop" and can give full play to the speed advantage, which can be used for long-distance transport, but also for short-and medium-distance passenger transport.
China has great potential in the passenger transport market of 800-1500 km. Because of its high economic operation speed, the high-speed maglev transportation system is also suitable for the modern high-speed passenger transportation system between the central city and the important nearby cities, which is tens to hundreds of kilometers apart. It will be one of the important schemes to be considered when China chooses to build the high-capacity passenger transportation system.
Ding San, head of high-speed maglev project and Deputy Engineer of Sifang Stock Company, said in an interview with the media that, according to the actual travel time, high-speed maglev is the fastest mode of transportation in the range of 1500 kilometers. Taking Beijing to Shanghai as an example, plus travel preparation time, it takes about 4.5 hours by air, 5.5 hours by high-speed rail and 3.5 hours by high-speed maglev.
Can such a high speed guarantee safety? The first financial reporter learned that the high-speed maglev operates in a "rail-holding" way, so that the train will not run off-track risk. Because the traction power supply system is arranged on the ground, using sectional power supply, only one train can run in the same power supply section, so there is basically no risk of rear-end collision, and the safety factor is high.
Sun Zhang told First Financial Journalist that China's research on high-speed maglev not only fills the gap in rail transit, but also considers the technical reserves. As an advanced technology in the world, high-speed maglev is one of the commanding heights of the current world rail transit technology.
Zhao Jian, a professor at Beijing Jiaotong University, told First Financial Journalist that Japan, Germany and other countries are tackling high-speed maglev technology. China's active participation in international high-end technology research and development is also a consideration of the competition of comprehensive national strength. It is also possible for China to make technical reserves for future higher-level transportation development, and also for military applications.
Japan has been experimenting with maglev trains since 1972. At present, Japan has 42.8 kilometers of Yamanashi Maglev Test Line. In April 2015, Japan Donghai Railway Company conducted tests on the Yamanashi Maglev Line, setting a world record of 603 km/h for the operation of Maglev manned trains.
The test of the maglev train is to prepare for the Shinkansen Central Line of Japan. The Shinkansen Central Line of Japan is designed to run at a speed of 500 kilometers per hour and a total length of 286 kilometers, from Tokyo to Nagoya. It is expected to be opened to traffic in 2027.
