Overseas Network, April 2 (OOCN) -- Boeing has been badly hit by the successive accidents of its 737 Max series airliners, while another 787-10 airliner has had problems recently. Singapore Airlines said it would suspend the use of its two Boeing 787-10 airliners because of engine problems, which would affect some flights.
According to media reports in Singapore's Lianhe Zaobao and Straits Times, Singapore Airlines announced on the 2nd that two of the nine Boeing 787-10 planes will be grounded due to engine problems.
It is understood that these Boeing 787-10 airliners use Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 TEN engine, an improved version of the Trent 1000 engine. The latter was discontinued in the past due to premature cracks in engine blades. The source pointed out that the preliminary inspection results showed that the new engine had the same problem. Singapore Airlines first discovered a crack in its new engine when it inspected a flight from Singapore to Nagoya, Japan.
"Some flights using 787-10 will be affected. New Airlines will call other passenger planes to continue to provide flight services, so as to minimize the impact of flight adjustment. However, due to the smaller passenger capacity of alternative airliners, some customers may be affected, and SIA will contact individual affected customers. Singapore Airlines said in the statement that ensuring safety is the top priority. Two Boeing passenger planes temporarily suspended will then replace their engines.
Singapore Airlines is the first airline in the world to buy Boeing 787-10, and currently has nine Boeing 787-10. The new airliner went into operation last year with 36 business class seats and 301 economy class seats.
