Recent Progress of Sino-US Trade Negotiations

Date:2019-02-25 Hits:1450

This is a century of negotiations.

Now, this negotiation is entering the most critical stage.

On the face of it, the atmosphere of consultation is still very good, and Trump's comments are worthy of affirmation. Moreover, he has met Vice Premier Liu He twice in the White House within a month.

But national interests are paramount. At the negotiating table, both sides are fighting hard on the basis of reason, not yielding to step by step, and sometimes they are tired of fighting and staying up all night.

The unprecedented trade war has had a far-reaching impact on the century's negotiations. There is not much time left for China and the United States. There will certainly be different interpretations of possible outcomes, and even misunderstandings and murmurs will not be excluded.

A few observation points:

1. Trump was most dissatisfied with China's surplus of hundreds of billions of dollars a year, and the United States was too deficit. Trade can be bought and sold, but it is not sustainable if it is too unbalanced. So is it good or bad for China to import more American products and what it needs?

2. Everyone who has been to the United States knows that things in the United States are cheap, whether beef, pork, clothes, shoes and socks, the same brand, some of the prices are only half that of China. If Chinese consumers can buy the same goods at the same price at home, is it good or bad for China?

3. Market economy, fair competition, and the entry of low-cost and high-quality goods from the United States will inevitably put pressure on Chinese enterprises to reduce prices and improve their competitiveness. Is this catfish effect good or bad for China?

So it's the same words that I said yesterday:

From a longer-term point of view, this challenge is not the second time for China to enter the WTO.

At first glance, some of the structural appeals put forward by the US side seem aggressive, but when we think about it carefully, many of them are not what we are doing in the process of deepening reform and opening up.

Without China's accession to the WTO, there would be no China today; without this challenge, China would not have realized its shortcomings so profoundly; without further deepening reform and opening up, there would be no real rejuvenation of the Chinese nation...

We can see it as a challenge, as a crisis, but more importantly, as a historic opportunity.

No pressure, no motivation. When reform enters the deep water area, it is more difficult to touch interests than to touch soul. Sometimes, without the pressure of breathless, it is impossible to make painful determination to carry out the reform of the broken wrist of the heroes.

If Sino-US relations are stable, China will not lose the period of strategic opportunities.

Of course, in the short run, there must be pains, just like entering the WTO, there must be some maladjustment. But in the long run, what are the fears of such diligent Chinese?

Maybe, looking back a few years later, we still have to thank the Americans.

Of course, there are principles for cooperation. If we can make every inch and ask for a lot of money, China will have no alternative but to fight back resolutely.

That leaves only the possibility of losing both ways. That's really the common sorrow of China and the United States of America!
